General Notes: Husband - Oliver Edmundson Nail
During the Civil War, in 1863, he enlisted in Co. L, 58th Infantry of which Capt. Robert W. Orr was the captain. As this company was composed of emergency troops, they were in service but a short time. They were with the troops which captured Morgan on his raid up through Ohio just after the Battle of Gettysburg. Later, he helped to organize a company of National Guard, first as Co. G, 16th Regt., and later transferred to Co. D. 15th Regiment. He served five years as captain. He was a member of the GAR, and served as commander and adjutant for many years.
He came to Clarion County, PA, with his parents and lived at Sligo until 1874. He was then elected to the office of Register and Recorder on the Democratic ticket, and removed to Clarion. He served two terms of three years each. After his retirement as Register and Recorder he was elected and served 10 years as Justice of the Peace.
