General Notes: Husband - William S. McCollough

---

He was born on the family homestead farm in Fairview township, Butler County, PA. He grew to maturity with his parents, assisting them to clear the farm, and wearing the coarse homespun clothes of the period. His education was obtained in a subscription school in a little log building. He married and they settled on a homestead; the land was unimproved, and the young couple took up their residence in the little log school house previously mentioned. The family were members of the English Lutheran church, of Millerstown, in which he served as elder and trustee. He was a stanch Republican, and filled the offices of justice of the peace, supervisor, and school director. He was eventually the owner of 400 acres of well improved land, and had a good oil production from it.
