He was graduated from the Western Reserve University, at Cleveland, Ohio, and from the University of Michigan. For thirty-six years he practiced in Ionia, Michigan, going there in 1867, and at various times was city physician there. He was a Republican, a member of the Benevolent and Protective Order of Elks and of the Free and Accepted Masons, and was an active worker in the interests of the Methodist church.
