General Notes: Husband - Samuel Jones
He was born on the family homestead. He went to the "Forks of Yough" in 1824 and settled on a farm purchased by his father for him from Peter Shepler. Samuel resided on this farm until his death. He was killed by a log rolling over him.
He was educated at the common schools of his day, reared on the farm, and came to Westmoreland County, Pennsylvania, in 1824, locating in Rostraver township on land owned by his father. He purchased additional land and became one of the largest landholders in the township, owning at the time of his death about twelve hundred acres. He was killed at a barn raising. He was a successful farmer, a man of influence in business and church. For many years he was a devout member of the Methodist Episcopal church, and actively identified with its official board. In politics he was first a Whig and later a staunch Republican. He was earnest and untiring in his support of the Union during the war of the rebellion. [HWC 1906 III, 13]
