General Notes: Husband - Alexander Turner, Jr.

He made the journey "to the far west" with his parents in 1797, riding old "Kate" sitting, for a saddle, on a sack of corn. He remained with his father until he was twenty-four years of age when he married. After his marriage he settled on a farm two miles north of Sandy Lake, but being displeased with the location, he soon removed onto a piece of land near his father's farm, which he, by hard labor, made into a fine farm, building a handsome residence in which he spent the remainder of his days.
There is an anecdote related of his early life that must have made him the butt of many a jest and much merriment. When he was a young man he spent an evening with his "best girl" and possibly found it difficult to tear himself away from her company. It seems the next day while plowing he stopped his team in the furrow, turned his back toward the horses and leaned against the plow handles and soon went fast asleep. His father noticed the team standing still for a long time and came out to see what was the matter. As he took in the situation, he could not resist the temptation to play a joke on his son. So he quietly unhitched the team and put them in the stable. The feelings of Alexander can better be imagined than described when he awoke and took in the situation.
