General Notes: Husband - Samuel Jones
He received a common school education and began for himself as a miller. However, at the age of twenty-one he turned his attention to making stoneware. In 1850 he purchased a half-interest in a pottery at Pleasantville, Venango county, PA, which he and his partner, Daniel H. Parker, managed until the oil excitement, when he began producing this fluid, at which he continued until he established his brick and tile business. This he operated by the use of natural gas, and during each year manufactured about one hundred thousand brick, twenty-five thousand feet of tile, and fifteen thousand gallons of stoneware. He also served twelve years as school director, and with his wife was connected with the Presbyterian church. He was a strong Prohibitionist. [HVC 1890, 1113]
He and his wife had a total of five children, only one still living in 1890.
