General Notes: Husband - Thomas C. Johnston
He had about 300 acres of land, of which 160 were under cultivation. He eventually retired from active pursuits, but still resided on the farm property. The patent of the property was given in 1740 by the Penns, John, Thomas and Richard, then proprietors of the province of Pennsylvania. Quality Run, which flowed between Peters and Montgomery Townships, had its source near, and several of the springs from which it commenced, were on Mr. Johnston's farm.
He and his wife were reared in and became adherents of the Associate Presbyterian Church. In politics he was a Republican.
General Notes: Wife - Margaretta Reed Templeton
She spent the greater part of her married life at Mercersburg, PA, but in 1889 she finally moved to Iowa. At an early age she became connected with the Associate Presbyterian Church.
