General Notes: Husband - Alexander Johnston, Sr.

He brought his family to Venango county, PA, in 1796, and settled and improved a farm one-half mile up French creek, above Utica. He early became one of the leading spirits in the settlement and development of the area. He was an active business man, accumulated a valuable tract of real estate, and reared a large family.

On the location determined upon for an improvement and settlement by Alexander Johnston, was at the time of his occupancy, and for several years afterwards, an Indian camp. The Aborigines were peaceable, and no trouble ever occurred between them and the settlers.

The list of his sons includes Samuel and Moses, but not James and Robert. [HVC 1879, 557 & CAB, 532] Robert and James listed as sons, but not Samuel and Moses. [HVC 1890, 635]
