General Notes: Husband - John Carlile Arnold


After his general education he prepared for the profession of law at the University of Pennsylvania Law School, from which he was graduated in 1909, and in the following year was admitted to the Pennsylvania bar. From 1910 to 1918 he was engaged in practice at DuBois and at the end of that time removed to Clearfield. Mr. Arnold was solicitor of the borough of DuBois in 1915 and of the city of DuBois from 1916 to 1918. From 1918 to 1925 he was district attorney of Clearfield County. In 1923 he organized the Clearfield law firm of Arnold and Platt, subsequently Hartswick, Arnold and Platt (1924-28), and from 1928 to 1932 was senior member of the firm of Arnold and Smith. Beginning in 1932 he was senior member of his firm, Arnold and Chaplin.
Mr. Arnold was admitted to practice in all Pennsylvania courts, including the Supreme and Superior courts, and to the United States District Court and the United States Circuit Court of Appeals. He was a member of the American Bar Association, the Clearfield County Bar Association and of various non-professional organizations, prominent among which was the Free and Accepted Masons. In this order he was affiliated with all higher bodies of the Ancient Accepted Scottish Rite, including the thirty-second degree of the Consistory, and with the Temple, Ancient Arabic Order Nobles of the Mystic Shrine. Mr. Arnold was also a member of the Acorn Club of DuBois. He was a Republican in politics and a Methodist in religious faith.
