He was a graduate of Dickinson college, of Carlisle, Pennsylvania, and the Jefferson Medical College, of Philadelphia. He migrated to Salem Cross Roads, Westmoreland County, Pennsylvania, in 1818, and to Saltsburg in 1834, being the second settled physician in the village. His practice extended over a large portion of Indiana, Westmoreland and Armstrong counties.
