Mt. Pleasant Twp, Westmoreland Co, PA

He and his wife were married when very young and settled at the foot of Chestnut Ridge, about two miles from Lycippus, Westmoreland County, Pennsylvania, where he took up the trade of carpenter and was for many years employed by the farmers throughout a wide region to build their barns. Late in life he took up his home with his son, William Lockery Johnson, where his death eventually occurred. During his youth he served in the old militia of the state, and at the outbreak of the Civil War was drafted into the government service. He could not pass the physical examination, however, and so took no part in the war.
