Monday May 12, 1913, Obituary in the Franklin Evening News: "Following a long illness, former alderman, Simeon C. Hoffman, age 73 years, died at Oil City Hospital at 3:30 o'clock Saturday morning. The body was taken to his home on Halyday Street where funeral services will be held at 10 o'clock this morning.
The deceased was born in Harrisville, PA., and came here in the early 60's when a lad of 14 and learned the trade of carriage maker and painter here in the shops of D. L. Trax, later working for John T. Parsons. He left here for Harrisville where he carried on a carriage manufactory of his own for a year or two and then returned and started a shop of his own.
He was a man who kept perfectly informed upon current events and interested himself largely in local political and fraternity affairs some years ago. He was elected alderman of the Third Ward about 20 years ago, filling one term and during 3 years of the term his office he acted as political magistrate under Hon. A. L. Confer.
Four sons and one daughter survive: Dr. A. T. Hoffman, J. R., George H., and S. C., Jr. of Oil City and Mrs. Elizabeth Powell of Philadelphia."
