Youngsville, Warren Co, PA
He was educated for a merchant, and followed the example of his grandfather and father up to 1882, when he disposed of his general dry goods interest and embarked in the hardware, stoves, tin, and farming implements trade, doing business under the firm name of McDowell & Kinnear. He was elected burgess of his town in 1886.
He attended the State Normal school at Edinboro, Pennsylvania, and Allegheny college, at Meadville. He engaged in the mercantile business in 1864, which he conducted with his son, Frank D. Kinnear. He was a vestryman in the Protestant Episcopal church. In politics a staunch Republican, he was Justice of the Peace, and member of the borough council. He was chief burgess for the borough of Youngsville, Pennsylvania, being elected several times. Member of the A. O. U. W.
