General Notes: Husband - Noah Knapp

He resided in his native town until 1834, when he moved to Thompson Hill (later Putnamville), Pennsylvania, and later purchased a farm one mile west of Thompson Hill. His youth was spent on the farm, and he experienced all the discomforts of farm life at that early day. He assisted his father in the management of his large farm until seventeen years of age, and attended school during the winter season. In 1842 he left home and with a cousin, Sydney Putnam, started west on foot for Mansfield, Ohio, a distance of two hundred miles, where his uncle, Manley Barrett, resided. Not finding suitable work there, they went to Elyria, Ohio, where two uncles, Josiah and Reuben Barrett, were living, and for some time worked at various occupations. In 1844, after his return home, he worked for his brother-in-law, Chauncey Bishop, and subsequently for various people, after which he conducted a farm for two years on shares, being very successful. In 1847 he purchased a farm of fifty acres, which he sold in 1856 and purchased a new farm of fifty acres, on which he resided for one year, then disposed of it and worked the farm of Mr. Avril at Marsh Corners on shares until 1858. He then purchased a tract of fifty acres, one and three-fourth miles east of Lander, and moved upon it in the fall of 1858. In 1860 he purchased forty-five acres of sugar brush land adjoining the original farm and continued to live there the remainder of his days. He was reared under the influence of Universalism, but later favored the Methodist Episcopal church. He was originally a Whig, later a Republican, and finally a staunch advocate of the cause of Prohibition. He was a member of the Patrons of Husbandry.

General Notes: Wife - Almeda Jenkins

She was a devoted member of the Methodist Episcopal church, and was especially characterized for her pronounced temperance views and deeds of charity.
