General Notes: Husband - Christian W. Strohm
He was born and with the exception of about three years always remained on the home farm with his father. The three years referred to were spent in mercantile pursuits in Alverton, Pennsylvania.
His entire childhood and early youth were passed on his father's farm. As a young man he went to Alverton, Westmoreland County, Pennsylvania, and there spent three years engaged in a mercantile line of business, but at the expiration of this period he returned to his native place and once more took up farming with his father. In 1905 he purchased a farm from his father-in-law, Joseph Hixon, consisting of ninety-three acres where he conducted general farming. In the year 1894 Mr. Strohm became possessed of a threshing outfit, and for twenty-three years or more was the principal thresherman in that region. He later opened and operated a garage and repair shop, where he employs several men to handle the work. He had a natural talent for mechanics, and as a young man learned the trade of machinist, and became very skillful in that line of work. Mr. Strohm was involved in the organization of county and state farmers threshermen organizations, which did much to retain the public roads. He served as committeeman to examine and assess damages and was instrumental in securing reasonable legislation.
In politics Mr. Strohm was a Republican, and he took a very active part in the local organization of the party, although he consistently avoided public office of any kind. He was a member of the Church of God at Alverton, also all his family, as was his father before him.
