General Notes: Husband - Maj. John Hitchman

He was a man of mark and stood high during his day in the military circles of western Pennsylvania. When the War of 1812 broke out he enlisted in a company commanded by Capt. Reynolds, was commissioned first-lieutenant, and was ordered with his regiment to Baltimore, Maryland, where he served until the close of the war. In 1828 he was elected brigade-inspector in the Pennsylvania militia with the rank of major and served in that position until 1836. He was engaged for several years in mercantile business.
