General Notes: Husband - Robert Hillis
He was born in the north of Ireland, so near the coast that he could, according to the account, "look over to the braes of Scotland." Here he spent his childhood until he had reached the age of fifteen years, when he came with his father to America on a vessel which took three months to make the voyage, and which met with stormy weather for the majority of the passage. Eventually, however, it was completed in safety in the port of New York. Still accompanying his father, he came directly to Westmoreland County, Pennsylvania, where he spent the remainder of his short life, and died at the age of thirty-five years. He had the reputation of being one of the most powerful men physically that ever lived in the county. He had learned from his father the trade of linen weaving, which he followed to the end of his life.
