At the age of seven years he came to Clarion County, Pennsylvania, with which locality he was ever afterwards identified, becoming the owner of one hundred acres of improved land on which he carried on the business of farming and stock raising. He served as school director for six years, giving his time to the building up of the educational advantages of the neighborhood. In his political beliefs he followed the tradition of his family and subscribed to the principles of Democracy.
