General Notes: Husband - John Edgar McIntire
Different sources give completely different information about his parentage.
He was first educated in the district schools in the neighborhood of Vandergrift, Pennsylvania, and after completing a higher course at Meadville College taught school for several terms, besides farming in Armstrong County. It was his earnings in the school room which enabled him to make the purchase of the land, which the labors of after years transformed into a comfortable homestead. In 1895 he retired in good financial circumstances and with a character of established ability and morality. In politics, a Democrat, he was never a bitter partisan, and served his term as justice of the peace.
He attended the old Meadville Academy and began his career as a teacher in the schools of Armstrong County, Pennsylvania. Not long afterwards, however, he purchased a farm just opposite the location of the present town of Vandergrift. In 1871 he removed from this place to the town of Apollo, about two miles distant, where he remained up to within about two years of his death. These two years, were spent at Vandergrift, where he eventually died at the age of seventy-nine years. He was the owner of two excellent farms and was a prominent man in the community. He served for some years as a justice of the peace and was also a member of the school board. He was a member of the Presbyterian church and was very active in advancing the cause of this body in the community
