He and his brother, Samuel, removed from Washington County, Pennsylvania, to Wilmington, Delaware, where they established a Friends' school, which was conducted successfully for several years. They amassed considerable property in Wilmington, and their descendants still lived there a century later, for the most part engaged in manufacturing.
