General Notes: Husband - Jacob William Hill
He was born on the old family homestead. He attended the Franklin township school, No. 7, and remained at home with his parents, assisting with the work of the farm until he was twenty-six years of age. He then accepted a position as engineer with the People's Gas Company, running an engine in one of their pump stations in Armstrong County, Pennsylvania, for nine months. He then resigned and came to Export, Pennsylvania, and accepted a position as fireman with the Westmoreland Coal Company, in which capacity he served for eighteen months. He then entered the carpenter shop department of the same company, building and repairing mine cars and performing general carpenter work, and at the same time he pursued a course in electricity, by mail, with the International Correspondence School of Scranton, Pennsylvania. He was promoted to the position of assistant electrician and had the complete charge of all material for that department, each day inspecting all the machinery about the plant, fans, etc., before starting them.
He cast his vote for the candidates of the Democratic party, and served as assessor for Franklin township from 1897 to 1900. Mr. Hill held membership in the Hill Emanuel Reformed Church, in which he served as trustee and secretary of the Sunday school.
