He attended the Madison public schools, Madison, Westmoreland County, Pennsylvania, and received his high school education at Union High School, Turtle Creek, Pennsylvania, graduating in 1906. He then matriculated at the University of Pittsburgh, and received his degree of Doctor of Medicine in 1910. He began his practice at Madison, and remained there for ten years, moving to Herminie in July, 1920. In addition to his general practice there, he was physician for the Ocean Fuel Company and the Keystone Coal and Coke Company. For four years, 1906 to 1910, he was a member of Company B, 14th Regiment of Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. He was a trustee of the United Brethren Church, an active Republican, having been president of the Sewickley Township School Board for six years, and was a member of the American Medical Association, State and County Medical societies. He was also affiliated with Lodge No. 518, Free and Accepted Masons at Greensburg, and attained the thirty-second degree of Ancient Accepted Scottish Rite, and was also a well-known member of the Independent Order of Odd Fellows, the Knights of Malta, member of Mystic Shrine, vice-president of Sewickley Township Volunteer Fire Company, director of First National Bank of Herminie, Pennsylvania.
