General Notes: Husband - Agnew Hice
He was a pupil at the public schools of his native place, and was prepared for Geneva College, whence he was graduated in the class of 1890 with the degree of Bachelor of Arts. Immediately upon leaving college he entered the law office of his father, Judge Hice. In 1893 he took his examinations for the bar, passed the board and was admitted that same year, in which also he began the practice of his profession in association with his learned father, the firm being known as Hice & Hice. This partnership continued in force until the passing of Judge Hice in 1905. Agnew Hice thereafter carried on the private practice of law, until 1908, in which year there was effected that powerful combination of legal talent, which was to become famous in the annals of the Beaver County courts. Mr. Hice headed the firm composed of himself and W. S. Morrison, Frank E. Reader and Charles R. May. The partnership arrangement remained intact until January 1, 1923, when Mr. Reader was elevated to the bench. Thompson Bradshaw then was made a member of the firm, whose present style is Hice, Morrison, May and Bradshaw. The firm does a general law practice for a select and exacting clientele, and has its offices in the Trust Company Building at Beaver. The firm stands unique in the profession in Beaver in that it accepts no cases of a criminal nature, and confines its attention wholly to civil law. Mr. Hice was enrolled under the Republican Party banner, but never held public office, although he was on numerous occasions of invaluable aid to the success of candidates whom he wished to have elected to office. During the World War he gave freely of his time and energy in the service of the government, being chairman of various boards and committees in the prosecution of war work. He was also in demand as a "four-minute" speaker. For his patriotic devotion and service he was awarded a certificate of recognition by the government.
Mr. Hice was a member of the Beaver County Historical Society, and was deeply interested in research of local, state and national historical records and tradition. His religious affiliation was with the First Presbyterian Church of Beaver, of whose Board of Sessions he was a member.
