General Notes: Husband - James Hurst
He was reared on the farm, receiving his education in the common schools. Until after the close of the civil war he remained at home, cultivating the homestead lands, and about 1870 went to an adjoining farm, the property of his father-in-law, which he conducted for some ten years. He went to Iowa in 1880, where he spent eleven years, owning and cultivating a farm of one hundred and seventy-two acres in Jefferson County. He returned to Pennsylvania in 1891, and purchased one hundred acres of the old family homestead in Mount Pleasant township, on which he then made his home.
He was elected to some of the township offices, and gave to the Republican party his vote and influence. He and his family were members of the Presbyterian church.
