• Photograph. This is a drawing used in a trade paper published by a firm in Chicago - and the article under the picture says: "Eleven years ago Mike Hay(e)s and his brother Lisle (Lyle), comprising the firm of Hay(e)s Brothers, settled at the head of Rock Creek in McKenzie Co., ND, where they now own and operate a section of as fine blue-stem grass as grows in that great state, on which they raise and fatten for market all kinds of life stock. That they make 'em good is evidenced by the fact that in their three-car consignment of steers and butcher stuff to the NATIONAL recently were 723-lb yearling heifers at $7.25, good qualify horned yearling feeders that averaged 693 lbs at $7.35 and 2-year old, good quality horned feeders that averaged 938 lbs at $7.25. Mike said they cleared $700 more than they expected upon leaving home. Our artist (Donahue) was just as proud to obtain this sketch of this thrifty young ranchman as we are to publish it, for in the Hay(e)s Brothers, the NATIONAL has a pair of warm western friends as well as "boosters.'
