General Notes: Husband - John Thompson
He was a native of County Antrim, Ireland, immigrated to Pennsylvania in 1795, and in April, 1799, removed from Chartiers creek, Allegheny County, to what is now Brady township, Butler county. [HBC 1895, 1247]
He came from Ireland, lived in different sections near Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, when his son William H. was born and later acquired much land in what became Brady Township, Butler County, Pennsylvania.
In 1796 (1799?), John Thompson, the progenitor of the Thompson family in Butler County, Pennsylvania, came from Chartiers Creek, Allegheny County, and settled on a 500-acre tract, one mile north of Muddy Creek, on what was later known as the Erie pike. With him came his family, consisting of his wife and eleven children. He was a typical pioneer, of powerful physique, hardy and resolute, and of more than ordinary intelligence. He became one of the prominent characters in the history of Centre Township, where he resided until his decease. His wife survived him several years. [HBC 1883, 338] His sons were all men of remarkable size, each being at least six feet tall. [HBC 1883, 364]
He was a native of Ireland, and while still a resident of the Green Isle, married Miss Martha Humes. Soon after that event he emigrated to America, and arrived at Philadelphia about the year 1796. From thence he removed to the vicinity of the present town of McKeesport, where he remained until 1799, when he located in what is now known as the township of Brady, Butler County, Pennsylvania. [HBC 1883, 417]
He came from Ireland, after his marriage. He settled first in Washington County, Pennsylvania, where two of his children were born, and in 1798 settled on a farm in what is now Brady Township, Butler County. That farm was later owned by the heirs of Rev. William Thompson. John Thompson had about 1,000 acres of land. [HBC 1909, 1481]
His six sons were very large men, noted for their great physical strength. All were members of Muddy Creek Presbyterian Church.
Other sources give the year of his death as 1845 or 1846.
He died in 1846, aged ninety-six years. [HBC 1895, 1247]
