Latrobe, Westmoreland Co, PA

He obtained his education in the common schools of Salem township, Westmoreland County, Pennsylvania. At the age of fourteen he left school and devoted himself to agricultural pursuits. He was the only man in the county who raised thoroughbred English horses. Politically he was a Republican.
