Sylvia Elizabeth Pohlman Hovis
Sylvia Elizabeth Pohlman Hovis, 87, formerly of Clintonville and Grove City, died at 2:05 p.m. Sunday, Oct. 5, 1997, in Orchard Manor, Grove City, following an extended illness.
Born Jan. 30, 1910, in Marion Township, Butler County, she was a daughter of William Herman and Lillie Belle Hoffman Pohlman.
Mrs. Hovis had worked as a cook in food service at Hicks Dormitory and Colonial Dormitory at Grove City College. She later was employed as a cook at Grove Manor in Grove City.
She had been a member of the former North Center Street Church of God in Grove City.
Mrs. Hovis was married April 24, 1929, to Paul Maxwell Hovis, who died Sept. 27, 1993.
Surviving are a daughter, Mrs. Kenneth E. (Betty) Moore of Clintonville; a son Willard Paul Hovis of Louisville, Ky.; seven grandchildren; 16 great-grandchildren; and three great-great-grandchildren.
In addition to her parents and husband, Mrs. Hovis was preceded in death by two sisters, Edith Welton and Mildred Heslop; one brother, Delmar Pohlman; and one granddaughter, Sylvia Lee Bullock.
Friends may call from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Tuesday in the Cunningham Funeral Home, 306 Bessemer Ave., Grove City.
Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday in the funeral home with the Rev. Christopher J. Clark, pastor of the Chapel on the Hill Assemblies of God Church at Emlenton RD, officiating.
Interment will be in Clintonville Methodist Cemetery.
