General Notes: Husband - George S. Heck
Waynesboro, Franklin Co, PA
He and his brother Fred Z. Heck, were merchants of Greencastle, Franklin County, Pennsylvania, were successors to Zeigler & Heck Bros., who succeeded George W. & D. Zeigler, of the well known Zeigler family.
The members of the firm of Heck Bros. were educated like the rest of the family in the public schools of Greencastle, Pennsylvania, and learned their business as clerks in the establishment of which they later became the proprietors. Fred Z. entered the store in 1868, and his brother two years later, and they continued to clerk until March 8, 1898, when the firm of Zeigler & Heck Bros., was formed. It continued until April 7, 1901, and on April 8, 1901, the style became Heck Bros. The new firm continued along the same line of business, and controlled a very fine class of trade. A choice stock of dry goods was carried, while a complete stock of shoes was handled separately from the other articles; there was also a full line of caps, hats, groceries, and almost everything found in a good general store of the time. The house was one of the oldest in that locality, having been founded in 1833 by an uncle of the Heck brothers.
