He resided in Northumberland County, Pennsylvania, later settling in Erie, Pennsylvania. He was a carpenter by trade and served in his latter years as justice of the peace. In religious faith he was a Methodist.

By his first wife, name unknown, he had ten children; by his second wife, five children. He died aged eighty-four years.
