General Notes: Husband - Dr. Joshua D. Hazlett
He was educated in the common schools, under private tutors and in Waynesburg College. He entered the Federal army in 1864, enlisted in One Hundred and Fifty-fifth Regiment, Pennsylvania Infantry Volunteers, and served until the close of the war. He participated in the battles of Chapin's Farm, Poplar Grove Church, Dabney's Saw-mill, Boydtown, Plank Road, Gravelly Run and Five Forks, and was on the skirmish line at Appomattox Court House, when Lee surrendered the Army of Northern Virginia.
He read medicine with Dr. John R. Wilson, of Washington, Pennsylvania, and was graduated from Jefferson Medical College in the class of 1882. In 1873 he came to Vanderbilt, Fayette County, and entered upon the general practice of medicine. He built up quite an extensive practice, was a member of the Fayette County Medical Society and the State Medical Association.
He was a member of Howell Post, No. 410, G. A. R., at Dawson, and was a member of the Cumberland Presbyterian church at Vanderbilt.
