General Notes: Husband - Thomas Harden Hays

He was born on the old Hays farm, in Mifflin township, Allegheny County, Pennsylvania. Moving to Pitts-burgh in his youth, he there learned the trade of millwright, and afterward embarked in the manufacture of white lead and linseed oil, in partnership with his brother-in-law, Jacob Painter, which firm continued until Mr. Hays' decease, when the property was sold to the P. R. R. Co.
He was a member of the First Presbyterian Church of Pittsburgh, toward the building of which he contributed the sum of five hundred dollars.

He and his wife had a family of ten children, of whom two sons and three daughters lived to maturity.
