General Notes: Husband - David Hays
He was a native of York County, Pennsylvania, and came out to western Pennsylvania about 1788, and took up several large tracts of land on the West Branch of Raccoon Creek. On the 13th of September, 1787, he purchased a tract of land which George McCormick patented the August previous as "Hayes' Bottom," containing three hundred and fifty-nine acres. A part of this Mr. Hayes sold to Ephraim Chidester in June, 1797.
David Hayes built his log cabin on the farm later owned by the heirs of James Stephenson, and where George Robb lived. On this farm he lived and died. When he came to this country he had a large family, of whom several of the sons had taken part in the Revolutionary war, and a son, John, was killed in battle. [HWC 1882, 913]
On September 13, 1787, he purchased land in New Jersey, where his children were born and reared. Besides the seven sons listed he also had five daughters.
Most or all of his sons served in the Continental army during the Revolutionary war.
