He resided on a farm of 110 acres, situated in Oakland Township, Butler County, Pennsylvania, this being a part of the original tract on which his grandfather, Henry Hoon, settled in 1818.
He was a member of the United Pres­byterian Church at Butler. In politics he was a Republican and he was frequently elected to township offices.
