General Notes: Husband - James William Witherspoon
His education was received at the Mercersburg Academy. Then for a number of years he remained on a farm prior to making Mercersburg his permanent location. In April, 1878, he accepted the position of cashier of the Farmers Bank of Mercersburg, which he filled, and under his management what was formerly a poorly paying investment began to return good dividends.
He was closely identified with educational matters of his town, and served as a member and director of the school board, and as one of the board of regents of Mercersburg College. In politics he was a Republican, and in religious belief a Presbyterian, as was also his wife, and he was an elder for about twenty years. His interests all centered in Mercersburg, he being not only a large stockholder in the bank, but the owner of considerable realty.
