General Notes: Husband - Martin Hook
He received his early education in Germany, went to work at an early age, and when eighteen years old emigrated to America and settled in Clarion County, Pennsylvania, February 20, 1879, where he worked in various capacities, for the first winter receiving only four dollars per month wages, then being employed on the railroad for two years, then working in the woods as a lumberman, and later on a farm for seven years, and finally, in April, 1892, settling in Fryburg and engaging in the butcher business. He also owned and cultivated a farm near Fryburg. He was a Democrat in politics, and a Roman Catholic in religion.
