He was born in England and came to America, locating in New Jersey, where he married a German girl and reared a family, which had grown up when the Revolutionary war commenced.

He bought a large tract of land containing eight hundred acres [in Fayette County, Pennsylvania?], which was known as the Lookwell farm, the greater part of which was in the possession of his descendants at the start of the twentieth century.
