For a number of years he held the office of postmaster of Waltz's Mills, Westmoreland County, Pennsylvania. He was a Democrat in politics, and his church membership was with the Presbyterian denomination.
After he married he acquired the old Waltz homestead, where he resided during the remainder of his life.
He died in the seventy-second year of his age.
