He was born in the mid Atlantic ocean and is said to have settled in Hopewell Township, Cumberland County, Pennsylvania and to have died there or in Franklin County.
He served in the Revolution (see page 627 of "Muster Rolls of the Cumberland Co. Militia") He served in the 1st Battalion, Cumberland Co. Pa. in 1777 under Col. Samuel Lyon; also 4th class roll of 2nd Co. of 6th Battalion under Col. James Dunlap Aug. 2, 1782; also 4th Co., 4th class in Capt. Alex. Peebles' Co, Oct. 23, 1777.
