He was born in the New England states.
He died in 1872 when thirty-two years of age. [HMC 1909, 952]
A number of years before his death James E. Hamlin went to California, and he was engaged in the drug business in San Francisco until returning east to New York. From there he went to Mercer County, Pennsylvania, and located on a farm in Hempfield Township, becoming one of the prominent agriculturists and stock raisers there.
