General Notes: Husband - I. Henry Mott
He was a resident of Warren County, Pennsylvania, nearly all his life. His early years were passed on his father's farm, and his education acquired in the local schools. After finishing his education he became a teacher in the public schools, following this career in the winter and working in a creamery in the summer time. He continued thus for a while, when he became a clerk in the store of Harvey T. Russell, at Russell, where he remained a year; he then became connected as bookkeeper with the general store of O. D. Coleman, at Kane, Pennsylvania, having charge of the office, and remaining there for a period of four years. In 1887 he returned to Russell and purchased an interest in the general store of his brother, Aaron V. Mott, at the same time assuming the duties of assistant postmaster of the town. In 1891 he went back to Kane, associating himself with the Smith & Welker Hardware Company, and later on becoming general manager of the store. He held this position for ten years, resigning it in 1901 in order to become a traveling salesman for the Cattaraugus Company, with whom he continued for a year. He then came to Warren, and was for a short time associated with the Picket Hardware Company in that place. On May 15, 1902, he formed a partnership with George H. Phillips, establishing the Mott-Phillips Hardware Company, which also handled a general line of building supplies and did plumbing, sheet iron and copper work.
Mr. Mott was one of the most prominent and progressive citizens of the place, and was a member of a number of fraternal organizations. He joined North Star Lodge, No. 241, Free and Accepted Masons, in April, 1888; Occidental Chapter, No. 235, Royal Arch Masons, in February, 1890, elected king for 1891, and most excellent high priest in 1892; Warren Commandery, No. 63, Knights Templar, in May, 1891, elected captain-general for 1910-11, generalissimo, for 1911-12, and eminent commander for 1912-13; Bradford Council, No. 43, Royal and Select Masters, December, 1896; and Coudersport Consistory, Supreme Princes of the Royal Secret, thirty-second degree, 1899. He was reared in the Methodist Episcopal church.
