General Notes: Husband - John David Sigworth
He was born in Germany and came to America in 1803. On arrival in the United States, he was sold to a Lancaster City, Pennsylvania, man to serve three years to pay his passage across the ocean. In 1817, he, his brother-in-law, Christian Henlen, and George F. Kapp bought an undivided tract of wood land in what is now Clarion County, Pennsylvania. They moved out in covered wagons, divided the land into three parts and drew cuts for choice. They were the first white settlers in what is now Washington Township. They built log houses, cleared their lands, raised large families and became the nucleus of a happy, prosperous God-fearing community.
When seventeen years of age he started to America without any money. At that time emigrants who had no money to pay their passage were sold on reaching America, to the highest bidder, and in this way their passage was paid. John Siegwarth was one of those emigrants, and worked to pay his ship-fare three years in Lancaster County, Pennsylvania, for the party to whom he was bound. This obligation being fulfilled, he married, started west, and became one of the early settlers in the present locality of Fryburg, Clarion County, where he bought a tract of land, improved it, and endured the many hardships of early pioneer life. He had a family of eleven children, four sons and seven daughters. He took an active interest in organizing the Fryburg Lu-theran Church, and during his subsequent life was one of its earnest and liberal support-ers; he also took an active part in establishing schools, and gave a helping hand to va-rious other improvements.
He was one of the first four settlers at Fryburg, Clarion County, Pennsylvania, where he located in 1817. The next year he took his wheat across the mountains to mill, all the ordinary facilities being lacking in the neighborhood at that time. The nearest store was at Pittsburgh.
General Notes: Wife - Rosina Henlen
She was a native of Germany, who was brought over to America when a child.
Another source states that she died ten years after her husband.
