General Notes: Husband - John G. Helmbold
In early life he became a large land owner and sheep grower. Wishing to keep larger flocks than was possible in his native land, he visited the United States in the summer of 1834, and on reaching Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, he con-cluded to come to Saxonburg, Butler County, where were living many of his friends from the Fatherland. He soon made up his mind to remain in the county, and bought 1,000 acres of land near the village, which he at once began to improve. In 1835 he was joined by his wife and children. In the course of a few years he became a very extensive farmer, and one of the wealthiest and most prosperous citizens in Butler County. He resided in Saxonburg until his death. He and his wife were among the organizers of the Evangelical Protestant church of Saxonburg, and always gave liberally of their means towards that society. [HBC 1895, 886]
