General Notes: Husband - John Guthrie
Like the remainder of the family he was always a democrat and attended and supported the Presbyterian church. Interested in education he served in the profitless office of school director for fully a quarter of a century. Although somewhat reserved in manner, yet he was good-humored and loved to crack a joke.
He was brought up and received his education in Derry township, Westmoreland County, Pennsylvania, and there followed the occupation of farming all his life. In his political convictions he was a Democrat, and he was an attendant of the Presbyterian church. He was a school director for twenty-five years. He was a captain of a militia company, and also served as a lieutenant for a term in a cavalry company of the militia.
