He was born in Lancaster and immigrated to Franklin County, Pennsylvania, where he was engaged in farming and hauling country produce to Baltimore, Maryland, until he was killed by his team becoming frightened and running over him. He was a lutheran, married and reared a family of five children, one son and four daughters.
