General Notes: Husband - Absolom Grove
He received a common school education, and learned the carpenter's trade before arriving at maturity. He followed his trade until 1861, when he enlisted in Company E, One Hundred and Thirty-ninth Pennsylvania Volunteers, commanded by Captain Douglass, and participated in all of the battles in which that regiment was engaged down to Gettysburg, where he was killed.
Per Bates, History of the Pennsylvania Voluteers: Co. A, 139th Reg., he died of wounds received at Cold Harbor, Virginia, June 2, 1864.
