He was born in 1835. [TCHWWCP, 1312]
He attended school in District No. 3 and afterward assisted his father on the farm and continued an agricultural life until 1894, when he retired to Hickory and was usefully identified with borough affairs thereafter. For thirty-five years he was a member of the Hickory United Presbyterian Church, in which he was an elder. Mr. Stewart owned 243 acres of land, 133 of which he received from his father's estate.
