JOHN HECKATHORNES HAVE OPEN HOUSE ON GOLDEN NUPTIAL
Mr. and Mrs. John C. Heckathorne, of 608 McCalmont Street, Rocky Grove, celebrated their golden wedding anniversary on Sunday with open house for their friends and relatives. Beautiful bouquets of gladioli and other summer flowers, with yellow and gold shades predominating, decorated the home.
The refreshment table was centered with a four-tier wedding cake topped with gold slippers, and on either side were gold candles in crystal holders. The grandchildren of the honored couple served as aides for the occasion.
Mr. Heckathorne, of Eau Claire, and his wife, the former Dora McMillin, of Rockland, were united in marriage on Aug. 19, 1901, in Franklin. They have spent all their life in this vicinity and Mr. Heckathorne, who was formerly associated in the oil business, is now retired.
Both are enjoying good health and they are members of the Rocky Grove Avenue Presbyterian Church. The Heckathornes reside at their Rocky Grove home during the summer and spend the winters in Florida.
They are the parents of seven children, three of whom are living. Mrs. C. O. (Erla) McCartney resides in Oil City; Mrs. Edwin O. (Helen) Hughes, in Rocky Grove, and Charles M. Heckathorne, Pinelles Park, Fla. Two babies died in infancy, a son, Russell, died in 1937, and another son, Ray L., died in 1943 during World War II in Italy.
They also have 14 grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.
The celebration of the golden wedding anniversary is particularly noteworthy as both Mr. and Mrs. Heckathorne's parents observed their 50th anniversaries. Mr. and Mrs. Ruben Heckathorne celebrated a half-century of marriage in 1907 and Mr. and Mrs. D. R. McMillin were married 50 years in 1920.
A supper for the brothers and sisters of the honored guests was held on Sunday at 5 p.m. Those attending were Mrs. Margaret Burk of Eau Claire, a sister of Mr. Heckathorne, and Mr. and Mrs. J.H. Borland, Franklin, R. D.; Mr. and Mrs. John McMillin, Cleveland; Mr. and Mrs. Oscar Exley, Dempseytown, Mr. and Mrs. Harry McMillin, Bethel, and Roy McMillin, Kennerdell, all brothers, sisters and in-laws of Mrs. Heckathorne.
The honored couple was presented with many lovely gifts and cards. Friends and relatives were present from Oil City, Emlenton, Cleveland, Cochranton, Seneca, Plumer and Long Beach, Calif.
On Saturday evening a family dinner was held at the home of the couple's son-in-law and daughters, Mr. and Mrs. C.O. McCartney, 232 East Sixth Street. Yellow gladioli and other decorations were used for the occasion.
