He was a partner in the lumber business, composing the firm of C. E. Andrews & Son. They had a saw and planing-mill in New Bethlehem, Clarion County, Pennsylvania, and were interested in and handled the production of two large saw and shingle-mills in Jefferson County. They manufactured and shipped lumber to various parts of several states of the Union. [HCC 1887, 643]
He received his education in the public schools of his native town. He was early associated with his father in business and speedily gave evidence that he had inherited a full share of executive ability. He became president of the following organizations: The C. E. Andrews Lumber Company, of New Bethlehem; the Andrews Real Estate Company, of New Bethlehem; and the Raine-Andrews Lumber Company, of Evenwood, West Virginia. He was vice-president of the following: The Hawthorne Pottery Company, of Hawthorne, Pennsylvania, and the Pennsylvania Fuel Supply Company, Emlenton, Pennsylvania. He was a director in the Glady and Alpena Railway Company, of Evenwood, West Virginia; the Meadow River Lumber Company, Rainelle, West Virginia; the Meadow River Coal and Land Company, also of Rainelle; and the Sewell Valley Railroad Company, of the same place.
He was president of the First National Bank of New Bethlehem, and a director in the Bank of Rainelle, Rainelle, West Virginia.
He served as a member of the town council and the school board. In the sphere of politics he was identified with the Republicans. He was a life member of the Americus Republican Club, of Pittsburgh; was a Consistory and Chapter Mason, and affiliated with the Knights Templar and the Knights of Pythias, belonging also to the Mystic Shrine and the Royal Arcanum. He was a member of the Baptist church.
