General Notes: Husband - Henry Lauffer, Jr.
He was a farmer, trader, and man of affairs. He began driving between Pittsburgh and Baltimore, hauling produce in a big Conestoga wagon when but sixteen years of age. He resided with his father on the old homestead until the death of the latter in 1821, after which he lived on a farm just west of Greensburg, Pennsylvania. He later moved into the Manor Valley. In later years he operated a fulling mill in the Manor Valley, two miles north of Harrison City, on what became the James McKeever farm; home-made cloth, flannels and blankets were brought for many miles to his mill to be fulled. He built the first brick house in the Manor Valley. At the time of his death he had acquired considerable property, including several excellent farms.
He was a member of the Reformed church, an active republican, and an influential citizen.
His family consisted of twelve children, of whom six lived to old age.
